Mike Sonko's Rise to Riches: Confession, and Advice to The Youth

Fellow
youth, i understand that life is not easy, it’s never been. Let me
share with you in brief from where i have come from. I came from a not
so wealthy family, i used to envy some of my peers who’d better things
in life than me but what kept me strong was hope. I hoped that one day
i’d have a better future, a house of my own, a car and all the fancy
things a young person could wish for. I remember my time in highschool
and i confess, i was stubborn, teachers used to suspend me all the time.
I was suspended and expelled from most of the schools that i attended
and most people had lost hope in me. I didn’t let their negative
thoughts get to me though. I used their negativity to motivate myself, i
couldn’t give up, not when i had people to prove wrong.

 The
golden opportunity that i had so patiently waited for came when i was
still in highschool. I had earlier gained some experience in brokering
land and i made 10 million from this. That’s right,
i made million while still in highschool, form 3 to be exact, clean
money! I never thought i’d make that kind of money while i was still
that young.

I sometimes sit in my office and look around in
disbelief. Do you remember me weeping when i was announced the winner
after emerging victorious in the March 4th elections? I couldn’t believe
it. The young stubborn boy who everybody had lost hope in is now the
Nairobi Senator.

My message to the youth is don’t ever give
up. Hope can take you to places you thought would never exist. Be
patient, patience is a virtue and can be used as a weapon, a weapon to
fight your way out of poverty. If you’re feeling desperate to be
successful, convert that desperacy into strength and most importantly,
put God first. Don't kid yourself; Maisha it's not that easy. You must
persevere.
